Bike Trains

When surveyed, the majority of primary school children say that they would like to cycle to school.

In response to this, Amersham Cycle Training developed the first Bike Train in Buckinghamshire, at Elangeni School in Amersham.

What is a Bike Train?
A Bike Train is a bit like a walking crocodile, but on bikes! Children are escorted to and from school on their bikes in a 'train' by trained volunteers. They are collected in the mornings from 'stations' near their homes and dropped off again after school.

What age do the children need to be?
Children from year 3 can take part as long as they are confident cyclists.

Do they get training?
Yes. Children are trained firstly in control skills (level 1) and then in how to ride as part of a train. This all takes place on the playground.

Who are the escorts?
Volunteer adults can be trained to act as escorts for the train.

How do we get a Bike Train at our school?
You need a dedicated Bike Train Co-ordinator, but Amersham Cycle Training will provide all necessary training and information packs. We can arrange insurance and practice rides. Contact us for more details and costs.

Why Cycle?

We know it's eco-friendly
We know it's healthy
We know it's cheap

But... what the politicians seem to forget is

Cycling is fun!
